Three windows and a hanging

In a traditional village in Kosovo, a year after the war (2000) when people are rebuilding their lives, school teacher Lushe is driven by her inner conscience to give an interview to an international journalist, telling her that she and three other women from the village were raped by Serbian forces. When the news is published, the men of the village begin to suspect their wives. Once they realize that it was Lushja who spoke to the journalist, they begin to stigmatize her and her young son, asking her to leave the village and try to find out if their wives were among those who were raped. This pressure continues until Ilir (Lushe's husband), who was in prison as a prisoner of war, returns home. They try to convince Ilir to divorce Lusha. He begins to get emotionally confused, but later, in a scene at a village wedding, he decides to stand by Lushe's side, telling everyone not to blame but to apologize to the women who have not treated them as victims. A critical view of a society that survived the war, gained its independence, but still struggles with human equality. An intelligent portrait of a Balkan village, of the patriarchal microcosm and its mayor, who desperately wants to control the life of the village. Of men who feel compelled to act strong, but act against their emotional interest. A reflection of rituals that not only show gender inequality, but also the lack of freedom of expression within the male community.
